The Writing Page
  Stephen W. Ragan, Ph. D.
The development of grants from concept to proposal is one of my favorite activities.  It let's me get to know an organization and its context and help to solve a problem in the community within which the organization interacts.  As a side benefit both the organization and the community see an immediate increase, after the funding notification is received, in resources to deal with the problem.

It is my hope that The Writing Page will allow me to expand my activities beyond my current position and locale.  I believe that on-line project development and editing are more than feasible, as I have worked in this mode for institutions for several years.  this expansion simply allows me to branch out to other organizations, regardless of their proximity to me.

Click to view resume Writing papers and editing for clients allows me to creatively approach communication problems which challenge the writer, and ultimately, the reader.  The goal of all writing is to communicate a message clearly from the writer to an audience.  It is my responsiblity to insure that the communication occurs.

The Writing Page is an extension of the composition instruction which I provide my students in the university classroom.  One of my favorite
classes is professional and technical writing, because teaching that class allows me to help students face real-world communication challenges and succeed.  The Writing Page is designed to extend that service to personal, business and other professional writing as it occurs around the world.

Click to view resume The Internet is a fascinating medium and technology.  It has changed and will continue to change human interaction and communication.

My goal is to facilitate the communication that takes place over the Internet through quality web site design and content editing.  So much of the content on the Internet is needed at one level or another.  Two questions come to my mind.  Does the web site convey accurately the writer's intent and meaning?  And will the reader understand and respond appropriately?

These two questions are what I am all about.

Click to view resume I graduated from Minot State University with a B.A. in Art and an emphasis in graphic design.  I have been employed as a graphic design artist at three different corporations since graduation.  I am particularly
interested in The Writing Page because it will allow me to extend my
graphic arts skills into areas other than photography, computer design, and page layout.  At the same time I will be able to use those skills to assist individuals, companies and organizations to prepare better reports, proposals, advertising and other dcouments critical to their growth.

It has been my experience that the design of a document that is appealing introduces the reader to the content and provides a positive mindset as s/he approaches that content.  While the content is the key to a winning report or proposal, the design can assist greatly in focusing the reader on the critical aspects of the document.  It is my job to provide consultation to that end.
